| 03/30/2009 | Russian Dove Berkshire Dumbo w/Blaze | Silver Girl is a laid back rattie. And I'm truly blessed to have her in my life. She certainly lives up to her name. She is just content to sit peacefully on my shoulder and observe the world around her. She is a very pretty rattie and I look forward to seeing her children as time progresses. | Update: 12/21/09 I had tried rebreeding Silver and thought she might be pregnant. I went out of town for a few days and my husband was taking care of everyone. When I returned I found Silver laboring to breath. I couldn't get her to eat or drink any medicine. I suspected she had pneumonia. My husband said she'd been fine the day before. Out of desperation I gave her an injection of Baytril but don't think I got a big enough dose as she was still not breathing easily. I was going to give her another injection later but tried to get some water in her because she was dehydrated. I must have gotten it down the wrong tube or gave her too much too quickly as she died moments later. I tried to revive her by performing cpr but was unsuccessful. Just a warning to others it is extremely easy to aspirate your pet by accident. In the future I will try giving dehydrated ratties sterile saline solution in the rectum instead of down the throat so I don't choke them. My sorrow over my mistake is indescribable. She was the sweetest little rattie. As of 06/10/09 Health is excellent nothing to report at this time. |
