Lilac is a darling sweet little rattie friend. I couldn't ask for a better companion. When I put her on the picture taking shelf she posed pretty for the camera and then I put her bonding pouch up to the shelf and she climbed right in. She is so smart!. I love when ratties look adoringly up at me out of their pouches as I'm working at my computer. I can tell they are happy and contented, munching on the multigrain treats that await them in their pouch. | Update: 08/25/11 Lilac's tumor has finally gotten the best of her. She started losing weight and it became very large. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was the sweetest rattie. She is now playing at the Bridge. RIP sweet one. Update: 03/10/11 I waited too long to breed Lilac. I had always hoped for a litter of hers but when I finally got around to pairing her she would conceive but then reabsorb them as time progressed. I made several attempts to rebreed her and had the same results of her almost taking them full term then losing them. Upon my last attempt I noticed a small lima bean size lump under her right front leg. I knew it was a mammary tumor and the pregnancy was causing it to grow rapidly. As the estrogen levels returned to normal the tumor slowed. It is about the size of a peanut in its shell and has not grown at all for weeks now. You can hardly tell it's there. I started wondering if it was an abscess instead of a tumor or if it's malignant and still growing but growing inside the body cavity where I can't see it. She is of good weight and her sweet loving self. She is eating and happy and active, so whatever it is it does not seem to be bothering her. I'll keep you posted on developments. As of 01/09/10 her health is excellent. |
