RDPY Cherry Bomb x RDPY Muscklekar Babies

Born on: 09/15/09

Update: 10/22/09 It's appearing that this litter has health problems. At first I thought it was a myco infection afflicting everyone, but now I think that their lungs may not have been operating properly. I lost one shortly after it was born as there were six and then only five. Then I lost Cherry Stub, then Pinky and now Tiscuit is not doing good.

Several of them just never thrived. Their growth has been stunted. I even started soaking their food in water to help them eat it easier. Cherrykar is small and under weight. The only one that a normal weight and really looks healthy is Cherry Mist. At this point I don't know if this is a genetic issue or not. But stunted growth can be a sign of a heart defect. If the heart is not strong it will not be able to pump fluids out of the body and these can then start to fill up in the lungs. I feel this is what has happened with the one's that have passed on so far, water on the lungs. I've never had any problems with the health of the dwarfs from this lineage before.

I will probably try breeding Cherry again later to see what the next litter is like to determine a genetics problem with the line. The rattie named Pinky that was to go to Brian, I will be substituting the only boy from Duce's litter in replacement for him as Brian has waited months to get three dwarfs for his kids.

Mama and Daddy rattie's health remains robust.

RDPY Cherrykar
Himalayan Dumbo Dwarf
(His lungs sound fine but his growth is stunted and he's not developing like he should. Update: 10/28/09 Cherrykar has head tilt. I will be starting him on antibiotics and a NSAID.)11/10/09 I found Cherrykar dead today. All I can think of was he got too much antibiotics as his other cagemates bigger than him were on it. He was also having a hard time drinking from the water bottles. He was so tiny he couldn't push the metal ball up in them. I had been soaking his food in water and putting water in a dish for him to drink out of. He was such cute little guy. I really hoped he'd make it.
